Meghann Cuniff says Tory Lanez will serve close to nine years.
Yesterday, Tory Lanez's long-awaited sentencing took place over her role in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting case. The artist was sentenced to ten years in prison, as reported by Meghann Cuniff. Cuniff reported today that Lanez will have nearly a year reduced from his ten-year sentence, however, for time served.
“Lanez will be credited for 231 days already spent in prison,” she wrote on Twitter. “He gets 15% 34-day credit,” explained Cuniff. “Herriford is also crediting his 40 days of house arrest, bringing his total to 305 days. He will ask for bail pending the appeal, which will be heard on Aug. 15. (Extremely unlikely to be granted).” For obvious reasons, the sentence got social media users talking. While some took to Twitter to defend Lanez, others will surely be disappointed that he only serves nine years.

In addition to his Tweet about Lanez's time being deducted from his sentence, Cuniff also posted a statement shared by Deputy D.A. Kathy Ta. “I cannot stress enough the power that must have taken someone with the level of trauma they went through and the willingness to come forward after being vilified online,” she said of Megan Thee Stallion.
Before he was sentenced, Lanez apologized for his behavior, referring to Megan Thee Stallion as his "friend". "I want to apologize for everything I've been a part of and even for being in this situation and for everything I've done wrong, I take full responsibility and I'm mature enough to say I was wrong," he told Judge David Herriford. "I'm not asking for special treatment," he also said. “Or for you to go beyond the scope of what you do. All I'm asking is that you give me the chance to be a better parent and mentor and be better to my employees.” He also stated that he "still cares a lot" about Megan Thee Stallion, which sparked some further debate among users.
