Chris Rock is offering his take on the 2022 Academy Awards incident.
Chris Rock is finally talking about the 2022 Oscars incident. In his new Netflix comedy special, the South Carolina native couldn't help but reminisce about last year's Oscars, where he was immediately slapped by Will Smith after making a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's head. The "Gemini Man" actor has faced serious consequences as a result of his violent outburst, although he seems to be getting back into the public's good graces as of late.
Chris Rock, however, is getting mixed reviews for some of the comments made during his new stand-up show. His rant about Meghan Markle calling the Royal Family "racist" as if he didn't know they practically invented racism gained backlash for "bashing black women", not to mention the things he had to say about Pinkett Smith and her husband. “Years ago, his wife said I should give up the Oscars. I shouldn't present because her man was not nominated for the awards. And then he gives me a f*cking slap,” he joked at one point.
Elsewhere in Netflix's long-running project, Rock claims that Pinkett Smith is indeed to blame for starting the feud. “I made some jokes about her. Who cares? It's like this: She starts, I finish," he told the crowd in Baltimore. “That's what the hell happened. Nobody's messing with that bitch. She started this shit. Nobody was messing with her.” While Rocky had the opportunity to tell his side of the story, the insiders spoke to PEOPLE about what the Red Table Talk host is thinking
“She never asked Chris not to host the Oscars. She publicly said in a Facebook post at the time that Chris would make a great Oscar host and is perfect for the job." Additionally, sources have expressed shock at how many times Rock has described Pinkett Smith using the word "bitch." Instead of getting into online drama, however, the artist is "focused on her book coming out this year."
Apparently, Chris Rock's targeting of Pinkett Smith is nothing new. “[He] is obsessed with her and has been for almost 30 years,” say insiders. “See where he chose to film his Netflix special. His hometown. Obsessed. Jada had no part in this other than being questioned. They also add that "in 2016, she helped start a movement with the Oscars by questioning why there are so few black members, and did Chris take it seriously?"
No one can deny that Chris rock is good in the lost laugh.
