NAV Says His Looks Are The Reason There's So Many Haters In Hip Hop

During his latest interview with Complex, NAV admitted that he would also hate himself under the right circumstances. 


Rapper and producer NAV released his album Demons Protected By Angels earlier this month, which debuted at number two on the Billboard 200. As is tradition, the artist has given interviews and appeared on podcasts, and recently stopped by Complex to discuss his relationship with fame and why he thinks he has so many haters. Chatted with Speedy Mormon.

The 32-year-old artist told the presenter why people don't like him. Make money, have more fun, have more women and influence,  I think.

The "Someway" singer shared a story further reinforcing his claims about how XO co-founder Amir "Cash" Esmailian hid  NAV's identity from the public just before the explosion. "When Cash first met me, I had about 4,000 followers and  he said, 'Do you have anything to do with your story?' Everything else," NAV said. recalls Mr. "Then right after I blew up, nobody knew what I looked like. Some people thought I was black, but they didn't know. That's when the hatred I started coming in."

 As HipHopDX points out, the artist has been honest about his long-standing struggle with fame, telling Pitchfork in 2019 about a time when TMZ was unable to photograph him and he became uneasy. 
 
"Fame is what I want. It's a good question," he said at the time. "I'm not there yet because if I got out of Delilah's in LA and TMZ had a camera there  and they didn't take a picture of me, I would go nuts. I get in my crappy Lambo in front of them full of jewels and they don't even take pictures."
